brief description

The project is a design proposal on creating spaces for local communities of place and practice in the center of Athens, using abandoned structures of the existing urban architecture and planning. The proposal deconstructs and reconstructs the structures of the apartment building, from the scale of a single room to the scale of a building block, in a creative architectural vocabulary that can offer solutions adapted to the modern way of living in the city. Local communities of place and practice form organically and take initiative in the urban landscape and activities. Research involved locating and mapping existing local communities, understanding their values, their time-schedules, organisation strategies. We mapped the centre of Athens with the principles of psychogeography trying to create a qualitative system to understand which factors make us "feel good" in a specific urban environment. We tried to connect the two research results of feel good areas and the uprising of local communities. We then applied the results in 3 selected locations in Athens to design spaces that would host different local communities.
